NEWS

WEDNESDAY 16th JANUARY

Right now as I am writing this - 3.57 our time - Eldoret has once again erupted into some violence.     The Opposition threathened to DEMONSTRATE nationwide as from today, and they have now proved that they will right here in our town.     As I write the air is full of gunfire.    Our son Manu is somwhere out there but unable to return to us at this point.     We have had to ask for Police escort for our FOUR school buses, but we still may not be able to get the children home as usual.      This is more serious that we had anticipated and we shall now CLOSE the School till Monday a.m.

What is disappointing is that the Opposition is so intent on bringing chaos to their own Country - which strongly suggests they do not care about the Country only themselves.          Yesterday Parliament opened with them clearly demonstrating their unwillingness to recognise Kibaki as President, and for the most part they behaved in a most unseemly and ingorant manner out of context with both the House they were in, and the LAW.         It was however good to see that we do have some intelligent men and women elected out of the 207 MPs who are prepared to speak in a mature, sensible and impartial manner in support of due process of law and order.     The new Speaker is one such man, who although the candidate of the Opposition, proved himself to be both fair and without favour in dealing with what was without doubt an attempt to undermine the position of the presidency as it is.

To day seemed to commence peacefully, but now it is clear that we cannot expect things to ease.

We were almost destitute of funds ourselves this morning, and also feeling so helpless to assist the many around us who have been destitute for many days.   We have just now been told that some monetary relief is on the way both for us and also for them.    God is good, and especially good at Assuring, and Confirming that He is with us and all those who trust in Him.     Once again we can say that though gun shots shock and alarm us, peace continues to prevail in our hearts, and we are undisturbed - shots are NOW being fired right at our perimeter fences!         Scary - especially for the chidlren.    But the Police are here now...........

Once again we are going to have to see people being added to the 150,000 still in camps around us, and probably more running away.    Shops are already closing - we face once again some hard days ahead in every way.   Please continue to pray for us.

I am going to have to break off here for a while.......May try to write more late in the day, God Willing.
